Pirate Boys League Champs

POMEROY––The Pirate boys captured the League crown at the 1B League Championships here May 2, with the girls finishing in fifth, and all eyes set on District.

The team traveled to Ritzville Wednesday for the District 7 & 9 Championships for athletes to qualify for the regional meet, set for May 19-20 in Colfax.

Pomeroy hosted not only the League Championship meet but also the Cinco De Mayo Twilight meet May 5. The Pirate boys with 126 points were nearly 30 points ahead of second-place SJEL and were second with 146.5 behind Lind-Ritzville's 151 at the Twilight meet. The girls were fifth with 49 at the league meet and fifth with 69.5 in the Twilight.

The Twilight Meet was also senior night and celebrated were the track careers of Tyler Bagby, Sidney Bales, Braedon Fruh, Samuel Lamb, Trevin Walton, Katie Boyer and Rilee Thompson, said Head Coach Adam Van Vogt.

All-League track was announced at the District 9 track meet and included Bales, Tyler Slaybaugh, Walton, Fruh, Kyzer Herres, Levi Bowen, David Tejero, Boyer, and Carmen Fruh.

Sidney Bales paced the boys by placing first in all four of his events-pole vault, 4X100 Relay, 200m and 100m, scoring 40 points, Van Vogt said.

Tyler Bagby also placed in all four of his events and set a new personal best in the 100 at 12.71.

David Tejero set personal bests in all three of his events, throwing the shot put 34'3.25", the discus 94'9.5", and the javelin 118'2.5".

Other Pirate athletes set new personal best times/marks/heights, including Ismael Arteaga in shot put (20'10.5"), Levi Bowen in the 100 (12.99), pole vault (11'), and javelin (87'7"), Cash Copher in long jump (16'4"), Rylan Hays-Carnahan in shot put (34'7"), Kyzer Herres in the 400 (56.68), Samuel Lamb in javelin (96'10"), Santiago Lyden in the 100 (14.13) and long jump (14'5"), Braxton McKeirnan in the 400 (59.89), Tyler Slaybaugh in pole vault (11'6"), Ashton Tucker in the 400 (1:06), Robby Van Vogt in triple jump (32'4"), shot put (22'4"), and discus (72'7"), Trevin Walton in triple jump (37'6"), Katie Boyer in the 100 (14.08) and pole vault (9'), Haven Kimble in the 100 (15.81), Sage Kimble in discus (53'1"), Savannah Lyden in discus (42'8"), Atalya Mitchell in the 200 (34.31), Emma Thompson in shot put (14'11.5") and discus (44'9"), Rilee Thompson in shot put (21'9.5"), Emily Warren in shot put (18'2.5"), and Bethany Zimmernan in the 400 (1:09).
