EWAM receives funds for handicap accessible parking lot

POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) discussed handicap accessible parking at the Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum and approved a long-term camping exemption at the Fairgrounds RV Park at their meeting on May 22.

The EWAM has been allocated $97,850 from the Washington State legislation to make their parking lot handicap accessible. They are planning to lay asphalt between their sidewalks and the road that runs alongside the EWAM buildings, as well as laying concrete on heavily used loading areas. The work is expected to be done before the fair in September.

The commissioners approved an exemption allowing a long-term camper to use the RV park at the Garfield County Fairgrounds, on the condition that the camper provide the board with a letter providing the start and end dates of the proposed camping period. The board discussed the possibility of creating a policy to allow for applications for longer camping times at the Fairgrounds.

In further business, the board discussed a washout on the Pataha Creek Road in Columbia Center with County Engineer James Wege. The affected roads have been fixed, and a larger culvert has been obtained to be placed where the washout occurred.
