Pomeroy lights up for Pioneer Days, class reunions, parade and more

POMEROY––Town will be hopping this weekend as Pomeroy High alums, history buffs, and friends, family and acquaintances of the George Scoggin Family converge on Garfield County for the 2023 edition of Pioneer Days.

The weekend gets rolling on Friday with the Pomeroy High School All-Class Reunion at the Pataha Flour Mill, with festivities beginning at 10 a.m. As is traditional, various classes will be holding reunions at a number of locations around town.

Reunion activities will be taking place on both upper and lower levels of the mill, with a spaghetti and salad bar luncheon at noon.

The Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce will give its Hometown Heroes 2022 recognition with a Friday-afternoon reception at Meyers Hardware. The Hometown Heroes include Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Gary Houser, Citizen of the Year Stephanie Yount, Mark Waldher Volunteer of the Year Katie Magill, Business of the Year Meyers Fine & Unique Merchandise and Shelly Slaybaugh, Employee of the Year. Drop in to congratulate these fine supporters of the community.

Friday evening gets underway at Spinners Hall with the Seeley Theater benefit Wine & Stein event, which kicks off at 5 p.m. and wraps up at 11:30 p.m. Admission donation is $20 per person, which entitles one to a commemorative wine glass or cozy. There will be a nice selection of wines and beers from local wineries and breweries, including Seeley Selections, Paradise Creek Brewery in Pullman, and many others. Catering the affair will be The Bakers Table, with soft drinks and ice courtesy of Pomeroy Food Center.

Proceeds from Wine & Stein go to the renovation of the Seeley Theater.

Pomeroy Partners will sponsor free rides via Garfield County Transportation, which will station a bus at Spinners Hall.

Saturday, June 10 is just packed. You can grab a nutritious breakfast and boost the Garfield County Fair by heading to the Nazarene Church between 7-10 a.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage and beverages are on the menu for $7 per plate, $3 for kids five and under.

The Pioneer Parade starts down Main Street at 10 a.m. with plenty of candy for the kiddoes, and smiles and waves from those in the parade.

Then take in the Food Fair at Spinners Hall, which goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The George Scoggin Family is the Garfield County Pioneer Association honorees this year. The recognition ceremony starts at 1 p.m. in the Seeley Theater. Be sure to attend and honor George and his family for their long-time contributions to the community.

While you're around Pomeroy, several businesses are encouraging local shopping with raffles and specials. There are raffles at the Pomeroy Food Center, Meyers Hardware and the Pomeroy Pharmacy, enticing specials offered at The Bakers Table and Twisted Wire Coffee, and at the Pirate Pit Stop, shoppers will be eligible for door prizes and giving the dunking booth a try. Soft ice cream is also on the menu.

On Sunday, June 11, head to Crystal Springs for the Pomeroy Boys Basketball Golf Tournament fund raiser. It starts with lunch at noon and teeing off at 1 p.m. There's two players per team and the entry fee is $20 per player. The tournament is co-sponsored by Obenland & Low and SEWEDA.
