City Council discusses dangerous dog incidents

POMEROY–The Pomeroy City Council discussed dangerous dog policies and enforcement; closure of the Municipal Pool on the 4th of July; and the chip seal work being done on Pomeroy streets at their meeting on July 11.

Several complaints of dogs killing livestock and domestic animals have been addressed. Fines amounting to over $2,000 are due to the District court and two dogs that have been proven to kill livestock have been euthanized. One dog that has been deemed dangerous is being rehomed out of county. The council discussed amending the current dangerous dog ordinance, which does not have very strong punitive language. The ordinance will be reviewed by legal counsel before any changes are made.

The Pomeroy Municipal Pool was forced to close on July 4 due to a lack of available life guards. The guards were hired with the knowledge that they had limited availability.

The chip sealing that has begun is expected to be finished in a week to a week and a half. The Garfield County Road Crew has been working with the City Crew to run the equipment and with sign postage.

In further business, the council discussed a lot that the city has leased to Dollar General. Public concern was raised over its state of cleanliness, and the council stated that a letter requesting its cleaning has been sent. If the lot is not cleaned up when the road work in Pomeroy is finished the City Crew will clean it and a bill will be sent to Dollar General.
