Garfield County to join neighboring counties in support of EWCOG letter

POMEROY-The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) approved support of a letter from the Eastern Washington Coalition of Governments and discussed use of the impound lot at their meeting on August 21.

The commissioners voted to add Garfield County to the support signatures on a letter from EWCOG to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, opposing a draft policy. The letter states that the wording of the policy contains some ambiguities that undermine public trust of the policy. Garfield County joins several other neighboring counties in their support of this letter.

City of Pomeroy Councilman John Hirsch brought to the attention of the BOCC that the vehicles parked in the County impound lot are too close to the city's Well 2. The County is in the process of clearing the title to these vehicles in order to dispose of them. In the meantime, they will be stored away from Well 2.

In further business, the board discussed expenses and productivity at the Garfield County Sheriff's Office with County Sheriff Drew Hyer. They discussed some difficulties that have arisen due to shorthanded staff and possible solutions.
