City of Pomeroy holds public hearings, passes resolutions

POMEROY–City Council held two public hearings, approved five resolutions and an ordinance according to the minutes of their September 5 meeting.

A public hearing held for the 2024-29 six-year transportation improvement plan received no comments, and the plan was adopted by the approval of resolution 23-05. A public hearing was also held for discussion of the booster pump project. Jack Peasley of South East Washington Economic Development Association stated that the project is an important factor in providing more housing opportunities in Pomeroy. The City approved resolution 23-02, authorizing an application to Unites States Department of Agriculture for construction funding for the booster pump station.

The council also approved resolution 23-06, authorizing Mayor Paul Miller and Clerk/Treasurer Diane Taylor to act as representatives for the City to apply for a deferred maintenance grant with the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office. The grant is needed to purchase a replacement boiler, chlorinator, and main pump for the Pomeroy Municipal Pool.

The council approved resolution 23-08, establishing penalties for violation of the Animal Licensing and Control Ordinance, as well as a resolution 23-07, adopting the 2014 water system plan, the 2019 water system plan amendment, and the 2023 water system plan limited update.

Ordinance 930 was passed, creating a Custodial Expense Fund, which will hold the portion of building permit fees that are collected on the behalf of Washington State until they are remitted. The State fees have previously been held in the Current Expense Fund.
