Pomeroy First Christian Church is hosting "Hunter's Church" for all the hunters in the community on Tuesday, October 22. A wild game potluck is planned for 6 p.m. and the community is invited to bring a favorite dish to share and stay for the Worship Service to follow at 7 p.m. "Garfield County has some amazing Wild Game cooks," Polly Scott of the church said.

The Inland Empire Chapter of Safari Club International has awarded funds to Washington Department of Wildlife to assist in construction of a robotic deer for use in the department's enforcement programs. Pomeroy's WDW agent Jim Nelson accepted a check in the amount of $500 towards the construction of the deer. Nelson said the use of these decoys is one of the most effective ways to deter poaching and protect the resources for ethical sportsmen to enjoy.

Pomeroy city park is now receiving new lighting as a result of an idea conceived by Claude DeShirley, retired lineman-agent for Pacific Power and Light Company. Cooperation between the power company and Pomeroy city officials made it possible for the new system, which includes several of the better lamps removed from downtown Pomeroy. These lights will replace the old obsolete park lights. DeShirley and Scotty Dryden, present PP&L lineman-agent, donated many hours of labor towards completion of this project.

Excavation work began Wednesday on the new city shop to be erected behind the city storage building near the city hall, Tom Bunch said. The 38 by 50 reinforced concrete building will be built as fast as possible, Bunch said. A crew of ten men in the city crew began work Wednesday. A power shovel was used for excavation.

The Campbell-Weller Live Stock company used to feed 500 or 600 for the Alaska trade alone. The heavy animals were shipped on foot, to Nome, usually in charge of William White, and driven from there into the interior. The light ones were put in cold storage in Seattle and Tacoma for shipment to Nome. A.J. Buchet used to buy cattle in considerable numbers, bringing them from the Oregon and Idaho ranges. Stock is now marketed for the most part in Spokane and Portland, with Bryan & Reed the principal local shippers, aside from the feeders.

The La Fayette entertainment, to be given in the opera house next Wednesday evening, by the school children, promises to be an interesting affair and should be encouraged in a substantial way by the citizens of this community.
While in Walla Walla last week B.F. Shoukwiler bought a horse, harness and buggy and drove home to save railroad fare.
