Pomeroy residents Lonnie and Inez Cannon are using their yard and the Halloween holiday to collect donations for the financially hurting Garfield County Food Bank. The Cannons invite the community to visit their heavily decorated front yard to celebrate Halloween, and make a canned food donation to the Food Bank.

The Bell Telephone System-Suzanne Beale said that she owes Jo Todd a thank you. She comes to the Center every once in a while, and leaves a little something for seniors to enjoy and tells Suzanne that she cannot tell who left it there. Thank you, Jo, for whatever it is!

Hunting in southeast Washington was much worse than expected, as the large number of hunters who turned out either didn't find much game, or had the effect of chasing it all away. While a number of hunters got their deer or a good catch of birds, many who weren't successful early found slim pickings the rest of the day on Saturday, which was the general hunting season opener.

FFA winners in the recent Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland are Bob McGreevy, Carl Batterton, and Dick Miller. This team of three placed second out of 58 teams entered in the livestock judging event. Batterton won first place in the individual judging of sheep. Boys and teams were entered from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and California.

Miss Lenore Kuykendall is back to Cheney. Miss Kuykendall used to attend the normal as a student; now she is there as a critic teacher in the training school department. "My work is very interesting and I enjoy it very much," said Miss Kuykendall in a note to her friends. She expresses disappointment in not finding any Pomeroy students in her department.

There was quite a large gathering at the Episcopal Church on last Sunday evening, the event being a service of intercession for Sunday schools. The children marched in with their new banners, singing that beautiful hymn, "Onward Christian Soldiers." The hymns were all in keeping with the occasion, the last one being the National Anthem, "America." The rector made an address, showing what the Cross of Christ stands for-Strength, Love and Truth.
