City of Pomeroy candidates

Jack Peasley - Mayor

In my position with SEWEDA, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the citizens and business owners of Pomeroy. As I have said previously, I recognize the issues that many would like to see addressed. Available and Attainable housing, a more vibrant Main Street, a reliable Child Care system, and job availability for future generations are all very high on the list.

These things may not be fixed overnight. It has taken nearly seven years since the Garfield County SEWEDA Board first identified new-home construction as a priority. Today, the city is near completion of securing funding for the Booster Pump project, which will provide a water redundancy system throughout the entire town and allow for new-home construction in the Depot Addition.

Complex issues take time, and they take creativity. And most importantly, they require leadership and community support. Managing community improvements is not enough–you have to lead it. I believe I have the expertise and the love for this community to be successful in moving us in that direction.

Public participation and transparency are an important part of this process as well. I encourage the use of committees in local governments for specific purposes. They encourage public participation and provide the City Council with valuable information, maintaining essential lines of communication.

According to one federal study, Garfield County is the 251st most rural county in the lower 48. Our respective local entities need to continue to develop the process of working together.

I was born in Pomeroy, and grew up here. I chose to come back. I have many "old timer" friends here from my early days, and have met many "newcomers" who are wonderful people. Both groups have a tremendous amount of talent and energy to help improve our special community. Vote for me, and I will help facilitate that.
