Submitted by Pastor Roger Pedersen-Besides the evolution of human culture, politics and economics, there is also an unfortunate evolution in the use of language. Things that were clearly understood 50 years ago can mean something entirely different today. For example, the word "martyr" today in the postmodern period is applied to a person who straps on an explosive vest and kills innocent people "for" his cause and "for" a great reward after his suicide. But this is a very different definition from the concept of "a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion"-Merriam-Webster.

The little sawmill in the woods south of town has been closed for the season. It would have been operated a little longer, according to A.P. Nicholson, only for the fact that the timber supply ran out, the purchase of 200,000 feet from the forestry service having been exhausted. A new contract for 300,000 feet is being made, but the mill probably will not be put in operation until next spring.
