The National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program publicly recognizes qualifying federally funded schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students. It highlights the efforts of schools across the country making significant improvements for their students. The program has been in place since 1996, showcasing the success of hundreds of schools in one of three categories: Exceptional student performance and academic growth; Closing the achievement gap between student groups; Excellence in serving special populations of students.

Pomeroy School District Superintendent and Elementary School Principal Rachel Gwinn acknowledges the efforts and expertise of the district's elementary students and staff, crediting this achievement to them as well as parents and the community. "I am so proud of our students and staff, said Gwinn. "We have a team of the best educators, supportive parents and community, and more importantly, awesome students who work hard!"

The NAESPA implements the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program to highlight selected schools that have successfully used their ESEA federal funds to improve the education for all students and close educational achievement and opportunity gaps.

"I am excited about Pomeroy Elementary School being recognized as a National ESEA Distinguished School in [Category 1] Exceptional student performance and academic growth," said Reykdal. "It is my hope your team can participate in the National ESEA Conference, February 7–10, 2024, and be honored as a recipient of this prestigious award.
