ROSALIA–The 2-3 Lady Pirates are firmly in fourth place in the SE1B Wheat Division standings, helped by a 44-41 win over 1-5 Tekoa-Rosalia last weekend. Coming up for the Lady Buccaneers is a road trip to league-leading Oakesdale on Friday followed by a homestand versus the Dayton Bulldogs Saturday.
Oakesdale is atop the standings with a 5-1 league record with 4-1 Colton in second and 4-2 Gar-Pal in third. T-R is fifth and Dayton is sixth with a 0-5 record.
"It was a pretty evenly matched game," commented Head Coach Brian Koller. "They made a run at us in fourth quarter after we had been ahead by as many as 12 in the third quarter."
Lady Pirate seniors Haliee Brewer and Hannah Bagby led the team in scoring and rebounding.
Koller praised the team's effort after having played the previous day at Genesee, losing 68-22.
Bagby was Pomeroy's leading scorer with 11 and Brewer made three buckets and four of 11 from the free-throw line to score 10. Sadie Klaveano scored seven.
At Genesee, their pressure defense and accurate three-point shooting "spelled doom for the Lady Pirates," Koller said. "They are very good and they showed it tonight," he said.
Pomeroy (4-6) was led by Hannah Bagby's eight points.
