POMEROY–After beautiful fall weather, and an early winter that was quite pleasant, "Old Man Winter" reared his head and dealt a subzero blow to the first week of Pomeroy Gun Club's Camas Prairie shoot. Due to the brutal weather the Club shot a limited program in week one and will make up some events this coming weekend.
The youth shooters were greeted with below zero temperatures on Saturday January 13, and an east wind of over 10 miles per hour, that made shooting painfully difficult. The 12-year-old and younger kids did manage a couple of 17X25 scores from Rowdy Cole and Josh Hastings in the 16-yard competition. Sub Juniors were led by a couple of 15s by Byron Collier and Wyatt Taylor. Juniors Ollie Severs, Gunner Magill, and Mason Garcia all posted scores of 22 to lead that Division. A few Juniors shot Handicap and Gunner led that competition with a 21.
During Sunday program, the adult shooters had calmer winds and slightly warmer temperatures--slightly warmer being about 10 degrees above zero. Josh Hames and Buck Geiger posted the best 16-yard scores by only missing one target for 24X25 totals. The Senior Club posted Handicap scores and Wayne Tetrick mastered the event with the first 25 score of the young season.
The Club did not shoot any Continentals or Doubles and will make those scores up next weekend when milder weather is predicted.
