Stronger quarters lead to Lady Pirate win

POMEROY–The Lady Pirates edged Dayton's Lady Bulldogs by virtue of winning each quarter by an couple or three points-plus taking advantage of a strong defensive performance in the second quarter, downing Dayton 35-24 in 1B league action here Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Lady Bucs visited Oakesdale earlier this week, losing 52-15 (full report in next week's paper) then take on visiting Tekoa-Oakesdale this Friday before venturing to Colton on Saturday.

Pomeroy is in fourth place, 3-3 in league, 4-7 overall.

"The girls played hard and we came away with a win," commented Head Coach Brian Koller after the Dayton victory. "It was good to see most of the girls contribute and score."

Koller characterized the previous week as "crazy" due to the weather postponing action, and noted that it was nice to be on the court aghain. "We're looking forward to the last few weeks of the regular season," he said.

Scoring was shared around by the Lady Pirates in the Dayton win. Carmen Fruh (two three pointers) and Hannah Bagby shared high-point honors with seven point, and Haliee Brewer was right behind with six points.
