Lady Pirates eying post season

POMEROY––The Lady Buccaneers are gaining experience and improving, according to Head Coach Brian Koller, with the team holding a 4-6 record and fourth place in the SE1B League behind 7-2 Colton, 8-2 Gar-Pal and 8-1 Oakesdale.

"We put together about two and a half pretty good quarters against a very good Viking team," Koller commented. "They are very physical and aggressive and we handled that okay. They pulled away late in the third quarter as we just didn't take care of the basketball very well.

"We battled and played hard," Koller added, "but turnovers and missed opportunities cost us in the long run. We are gaining and improving. Proud of the girls' effort."

Turnovers in the final stages of this game turned a seven-point lead into a six-point loss for the Lady Pirates against the Lady Irish.

"We had a lot of opportunities throughout the game and just didn't capitalize on those," Koller said. "Overall, our effort was great. We missed a lot of baby shots and just couldn't get ahold of the ball a lot."

Koller praised Taylor Gilbert's performance. "She led us in scoring with 22, followed by Hannah Bagby with 12, Koller said. "It was a very evenly matched game and we hope to get another shot at playing them," he said.
