Erratic east winds present challenges

POMEROY– A fairly-stiff east wind caused some erratic target flight preventing gun club shooters from breaking a perfect 25 during week four of the Camas Prairie Association competition. East winds are difficult since the Traps face that direction so shooters have the breeze right in their faces.

On Saturday Rowdy Cole continued his good shooting in the 12-year-old and under division with a 22X25 score to lead the 16-Yard competition. Rowdy also led in the Handicap event with a score of 21. Carter Barron had a couple of 18s for runner up totals in those two events.

Saturdays Sub Juniors were led by Luke Collier's 22 and a 21 posted by Hagen Taylor in the 16-yard event. Collier and Taylor each put up scores of 18 in Handicap.

Juniors were led by the trio of 22s by Isaac Coon, Mason Garcia, and Ollie Severs in 16-yard shooting. Severs had the top score of 24 in Handicap and Garcia posted a 22.

Adults flirted with perfection on Sunday but could not pull it off as five shooters including Holly Ledgerwood, Larry Bunch, Lee Koller, Mitch Ruchert, and Mason Blachly all missed one target for scores of 24. Brian Bingman, Jeff Hannas and Buck Geiger posted scores of 23. In the Handicap event Bunch had another 24 and Brian Bingman and Wayne Tetrick had scores of 22.

Buck Geiger put up the best score in Continentals with a 24 and Jim Adams and Clark Capwell were one target back with 23s. Geiger also had the best Doubles score of 43X50 and Luke and Travis Ledgerwood had scores of 42.

After four weeks, the Junior shooters dropped back one place to sixth place in the 25-club field, and the adult shooters fell back two spots to 13th place. Shooting resumes this coming weekend for the halfway point of the 10-week competition. It is Super Bowl Sunday so it is hoped that most shooters will show up a little earlier on Sunday so we can get away for the big game and Super Bowl get togethers.
