POMEROY–The City Council decided to surplus property, discussed the tennis court retrofit project, and the booster pump project at its meeting February 6.
The council passed Resolution 2024-01, declaring surplus the property at the west end of Pomeroy that includes the lot where the billboard stands as well as a vacated alley behind it. The lot with the billboard was donated to the City by the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation. The property is valued at $22,000 and the council determined it will be sold subject to agreement by the council.
The tennis court retrofit project and the City Park will include new lighting and concrete. The tennis courts will be converted to pickleball courts and basketball standards will be placed there as well. The project will cost approximately $57,000, which has been raised from donations. Further fundraising is planned to raise money for backstops, nets, and equipment in the future.
The council approved re-certifying their request for funding for the booster pump project from the USDA with Mayor Jack Peasley's signature. The request previously made to the Department of Health is still pending. The booster pump project will allow water from any of the sources to be moved throughout Pomeroy's water system. "We are not dragging our feet or putting it on the back burner. It's going to make our city safer and expand the areas we can build in," Mayor Peasley said. "It's a priority."
