Rebecca Freelin appointed to Civil Service board

POMEROY–The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) appointed Rebecca Freelin to the Civil Service board, authorized a request for funding a review of the county's annual report, and voted to send a letter supporting House Bill 1835 at their meeting on February 12.

Freelin was appointed to the vacant Position No. 3 position on the Civil Service board. The position has been named, and is a six-year term.

The BOCC authorized funding of nearly $3,000 for a review of the annual report by a Certified Public Accountant prior to its submission. The review will provide a "security blanket to mitigate risk to the county", stated County Auditor McKenzie Lueck. The funding will come from the county's Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund money.

The BOCC voted to send a letter supporting Potts & Associates work introducing and lobbying for House Bill 1835, which would establish Washington counties with a population of less than 50 people per square mile as frontier counties. This distinction would impact distribution of monies from the state level, possibly increasing the amount Garfield County could receive.

The commissioners also passed Resolution 2024-04, setting a county road project (CRP) number for the Kirby-Mayview road project. The project will be CRP-460. The commissioners also heard a presentation by Anne Walsh on the Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce's Wayfinder sign project. The project, which would place 19 matching signs through town, giving directions to Pomeroy's amenities and public facilities. The project is nearly funded, with $41,400 raised out of the goal of $45,000.
