A disappointed Pomeroy Pirate boys' basketball team held the 2014 State 1B 2nd-place trophy after a 59-46 loss to Colton in the championship game. The Pirates reached the title game by defeating Wellpinit 62-38 in the opening round Thursday, and downing Neah Bay 59-50 in the semi-final game Friday. Head coach Brian Koller called the post-season "a pretty good run the last month to get to the title game, pretty exciting for players, coaches and fans."

Seven Pomeroy High School boys will compete this Friday, March 19, for the title of 1999 Mr. PHS. The program, which includes a high school talent show, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. The program is coordinated jointly by the high school Drama Club and the FFA. Most of the participants are FFA members and the chapter will assist on production numbers in the program. Mr. PHS candidates are Kelan McKeirnan, Jarrod Shulte, Donny Davidson, Kelly McKeirnan, Simon Crawford, Cameron Mulrony and Dustin Mulrony.

Central Pre-Mix Concrete Company of Spokane is successful low bidder for a new prefabricated concrete bridge across Pataha Creek on Owens Road at Dodge Junction. Garfield County Board of Commissioners Monday morning accepted Central Pre-Mix's bid of $38,563. No bids were received on the old bridge, which the county road department will now have to disassemble. A detour bridge is already in place on Owens Road, so there will be no interruption of traffic.

Construction on a 300,000 bushel all-concrete elevator costing $180,000 for Pomeroy Grain Growers, Inc. began this week in the warehouse district in east Pomeroy. Date for the completion of the huge structure, which will tower 160 feet above the ground, is set for July 15, 1949. It will be the first all-concrete, all-modern, all-electric elevator in Garfield County, and will increase storage facilities of Pomeroy Grain Growers, Inc. to 1,750,000 bushels.

When the janitor left the doors of the courthouse, including the jail, open last Saturday, Lon McKinney and Nug Greiner, held on booze offenses, walked out and away and are still at Liberty.
Oren Burt brought in an interesting photograph, showing the partly completed bridge which spans the river at Central ferry. Persons may walk across this structure now, it is said. It will be completed early in October.

Say, Mr. Tukanon, I don't suppose a man owning as many dogs as you say you have would be very anxious to trade unless he could dispose of some three or four of those six or seven dogs. We don't live on coon meat on Ping gulch; therefore probably I am not capable of estimating the value of your coon dogs. However we do have a few coons on Snake river, and I would like to enjoy an old fashioned coon fight.
