Liberty lances Pirates

SPANGLE–The Pirates were unable to recover from falling behind early in a twin bill at Liberty last weekend, falling 14-6 and 7-3. Pomeroy is now 2-2 on the season with a contest Wednesday against Prairie then a home stand against St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse on Saturday at 11 a.m.

"It was a tough loss for us," said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "We pitched well and played decent defense, but were over confident at the plate. As a team we didn't capitalize when we had base runners."

Notable performances in the game included Vinny Vecchio having a strong game as a reliever, Lovgren said, pitching with precision and control. Kyzer Herres had his best game at the plate so far this year and went two of three, Lovgren said.

In the nightcap, the Lancers broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third and kept going for the 7-3 win.

"Our hitting woes continued into game two," Lovgren said." Trace Roberts did hit a home run that gave us a short-lived spark, but ultimately we couldn't get the bats going with just four hits. I thought Trace pitched efficiently through five innings, which was the highlight."
