Pole vaulters lead Pirates with firsts

POMEROY––Pirate pole vaulters led the team with firsts in both the men's and women's competition at a Southeast 1B Track and Field meet here Tuesday, April 9.

Pirates Levi Bowen and Carmen Fruh both topped the pole vault competition, Bowen clearing 11-6 against SJEL's David Logen with 8-0, and Fruh atop a field of eight with an 8-6 effort. Second went to Julia Guske of SJEL with a 6-6 mark.

The Pirate team next ventures to Clarkston for a SE1B/NE1B mixer on April 16.

Competing in Tuesday's meet was Dayton, DeSales, Gar-Pal, Oakesdale, Prescott, SJEL, Tekoa-Rosalia, Waitsburg, Yakama Nation Tribal and Asotin.

Thrower David Tejero took second in the javelin with a 113-7 throw and Bowen was runner-up in the high jump with a 5-2 mark.

For the Pirate women, Ariah Bingman was third in the 100m. Hurdles with a time of 22.43 and fourth-place finishes were by the 4X100 Relay team of Haven Kimble, Bethany Zimmerman, Natalia Larios, Carmen Fruh in 59.39. Lucy Shields was fourth in the high jump with a 4-0 mark.

The men's next-best marks were all third places. Tyler Slaybaugh was in three of them: finishing the 100m. dash in 12.01, the 200m. dash in 24.76 and as anchor of the 4X100 Relay team that includes Jacob Reisinger, Jett Slusser, Boone Schmidt and Slaybaugh, in 48.45. Tejero was third in shot with a throw of 35-4.
