Pirates meet Patriots Friday

RICHLAND–The Pirates finished the regular season with a pair of nonconference losses to Liberty Christian–a coincidental end-of-season double header against the Grape Division champs–and a prelude to this Friday's SE 1B Wheat-Grape Championship game. The Pirates will take on the Patriots at Liberty Christian's field at 4 p.m. May 3.

The 11-1 Pirates and 11-1 Patriots will duke out the first- and second-seed spots to the D7/9 Crossover, winner will take first and loser second. The third and fourth spots will be via a four-team tournament involving Wheat No. 3 Garfield-Palouse (3-8) versus Grape No. 2 DeSales (9-2), and Grape No. 3 Sunnyside Christian (4-7) against Wheat No. 2 Dayton (9-2)

Pomeroy's two games against Liberty were lopsided losses, 10-0 and 22-0.

The Pirates were tough early along in game one. "This was a great game until the fifth inning," said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "Ollie Severs held Liberty Christian to three runs over four innings. We couldn't find the strike zone in the fifth."

The second game ended by forfeit after two innings, 22-0. "Unfortunately, we just couldn't get our pitching going and it was a difficult outing for our team," Lovgren said.
