POMEROY––The Pirate Jr. High track team competed in their last home meet of the season on May 6.
"It may have been our last home meet of the year, but our kids ended it in style," said Coach Adam Van Vogt.
Kaleb Miller and Christian Ramirez placed in four individual events. Kaleb won the high jump with a personal best 5'4". Kaleb also set personal bests with his 200 and 400 times. Kaleb's 57.36 in the 400 lowers his school record in the event and his 5'4" ties the school record in high jump. Kaleb concludes his junior high career as the record holder in the 800 as well and his time of 2:11 in the event is the 3rd fastest by a junior high athlete in Washington State regardless of school size. Christian also set a school record with his 16'10" long jump that won the event at the meet. Christian now holds two junior high school records of his own (long jump and triple jump).
Owen Wolf won the pole vault at a personal best 7'3" and ran his fastest 100 time at 16.41. Owen's vault is the 6th highest in the state and 2nd highest by a 7th grader. Sam Bagby placed 2nd in pole vault and had the fastest 6th grade time of the meet in the 100 at 15.5. Tyler Taylor set three personal best marks (100 at 16.63, pole vault at 5', triple jump at 22'1") and Dylan Taylor set a personal best in the 1600 (6:29).
Ariah Bingman. Reagan Mckeirnan, and Hollie Van Vogt placed in four events each for the girls. Ariah and Reagan placed in both relays in addition to two individual events and Hollie ran with them in the 4x1 and placed in three individual events.
This was Hollie's last jr. high meet and she finishes her career as the school record holder in javelin. Her best throw of 92'7" is the 8th best in the state out of over 1,200 girls who have thrown this season across all classifications.
Hollie, Reagan, and Tatum Jones have all vaulted 7' this season and are tied with the 7th highest vault in the state this year. KK Rager placed in three events of her own in her first jr. high track meet. She ran on the 4x1 and 4x2 and took 6th in shot put. Her 16.01 in the 100 was also a really good time.
Willow Bowen placed 4th in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 72'4". Willow also ran her fastest 100 of the season with a 16.86.
Other personal bests were set by Briane Davis in the 100 (16.62), Heather Davis in shot put (20'1"), Nataly Mckeirnan in the 100 (16.76), Sophie Miller in the 100 (16.63), and Emma Phelps in the 100 (17.53). It was a great meet for us.
