Shepherd Foundation, state funding and EWAM collaborate to pave parking area and sidewalks

POMEROY–The Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum's newly concreted parking lot brings the facility into compliance with ADA regulations. "We wanted to make it compliant for walkers and wheelchairs," said past EWAM president Patti Weaver. A large portion of the visitors to the Museum are elderly and they have found the gravel parking lot difficult to use.

The parking lot project was funded by a $95,000 grant from the Washington State general budget, as well as Garfield County and EWAM funds. Weaver requested funding in October of 2022 and contacted State Representative Mary Dye and State Senator Mark Schoesler, both ranking Republicans in their respective capital budget committees. The grant became Dye's member ask, and the EWAM received the funding in June of 2023. "It's iconic," Dye stated when discussing the Museum. "It's a living history. Many times the people who come are related to the people who used these items, and some used it themselves."

Josh Westergreen of 2 Cannon Construction contracted to do the concreting of the parking lot as well as placing $25,000 worth of sidewalk, which was paid for by the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation.
