Golfers drop out after first round at State match

TUMWATER–The Pomeroy Pirate Golf Team were unfortunately bumped from the second day of competition due to missing the cut off here last week.

"Neither one made the cut for day two," commented Head Coach Al Damron of the two Pirate golfers who qualified for state, Reggie Ott and Kiersten Bartels.

Ott, a junior, carded a 101, which was above the cut off of 88 strokes. Ott's performance tied him for 39th with Davenport's Mac Larmer. There were 59 golfers in the field, won by Joe Anderson of Orcas Island with a combined score of 148.

Bartels finished in 29th place with a score of 121. Nineteen golfers were under the 105-stroke cut off.

The girls' match was won by Naomi Molitor, a sophomore at Almira-Coulee-Hartline with an 88 in the first round and 85 the second day for a two-day total of 173. McKenzie Stanley of SJEL was fourth with a 181 and two DeSales golfers, Tori Kimble and Lauren Williams, with in 14th and 16th, respectfully.
