POMEROY–Catherine Chalfant held the grand opening of The Curiosity Shop in the building that was formerly owned by Lewis and Clark Credit Union during Tumbleweed Weekend. The shop specializes in antiques and crystals, and contains taxidermy as well. Chalfant has been working with antiques since 2008. The Curiosity Shop operates under the parent company Chalfant Ventures Inc., owned by Chalfant and her husband Bob. Catherine also runs an antiques booth at Thorp Fruit and Antique Mall in Thorp, Wash., and helps with Kit and Kat Estate Sales run by Kathy Holbrook. She plans to create an online antique business, and Bob is planning to open an antique shop in the Mangaboo’s Antiques building in the future. There is no date set for the opening.
“Antiques can be a hit or miss operation,” Chalfant said. “There’s no trends.” She explained that the The Curiosity Shop adds interest to downtown, and every store we have open helps the other stores. “It’s a group effort, not only to get through traffic to stop, but also to become a destination.”
The Curiosity Shop is open Friday and Saturday 9-5 or by appointment.
