Written comment period open for Appaloosa Solar Project hearing

POMEROY––The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) discussed a scheduled public hearing regarding the Appaloosa Solar Project, passed a resolution regarding Dutch Flat Road vacation, and approved several contracts at their meeting on June 10.

A public hearing has been scheduled for June 24, at the elevated seating area at Pomeroy Jr/Sr High School, at 6:00 p.m. Verbal comment will be accepted at the meeting, with time limits possible due to expected attendance numbers. Written comments will be accepted up until the 24th, either delivered or mailed to Garfield County Public Works, and must include name and address in order to be accepted. Testimony received after the hearing closes, written or verbal, will not be considered by the hearings examiner.

The commissioners passed Resolution 2024-12, stating their intent to vacate a parcel of right-of-way land on Dutch Flat road. This resolution starts the vacation process. The next step is an engineer's report, which will be created by County Engineer Kevin Poole. A public hearing will be held on July 15, during which Poole will deliver his report and any evidence objecting to the vacation will be heard.

The BOCC approved two contracts with HMH LLC, an engineering, surveying and materials testing firm. One contract is for pre-design work on the Kirby-Mayview road project, the other for pre-design work on the Lower Deadman project. The commissioners also approved a contract with 2 Cannon Construction for work done for the Garfield County Fairgrounds bleacher project.
