Deadman fire, dubbed the "Dan Fire"
GARFIELD COUNTY–A pasture fire was reported at 134 S. Deadman Road about 10 miles from Pomeroy on July 29 at 12:30 p.m. Area County fire districts were asked to assist.
Garfield County, Columbia County, Walla Walla County Fire Districts and was air support to fight this grassland fire to prevent spread. Afternoon wind picked up and so did increase blaze movement. Two hours into the burn, the fire was reported as covering both sides of Deadman. Air tankers were deployed to Deadman Road and Kirby Mayview cose to the Blachley farm. Firefighters from Clarkston joined the effort to gain control of the over growing fire.
According to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office, the Dan Fire is moving north and east towards Alpowa as of 5 p.m.
A level 3 evacuation notice was given to North Garfield County residents to leave the area immediately around 3 p.m. This was issued by the Garfield County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon:
Level 3 GO NOW evacuation alert for all residences from South Deadman Road north, now Bratcher Grade east. That includes Lynn Gulch, Washboard, Bratcher Grade, East Lynn Gulch, North Deadman Creek, McGrann Hill, Wawawai Road, Lambie Grade, Bounds Road, Debow and Tramway.
Level 2 READY evacuation for all residences from Kirby Mayview Road east to the Garfield County line and north of Highway 12. That includes South Kirby Mayview Road, Valentine, McKee Road, Elsensohn Road, Malone Hill, Howell Grade, Legge Road, Ledgerwood Road, Olson Road, Bowman Road, Beale Road, If your road is in these areas and we did not specify them please follow the appropriate evacuation order.
Residents can evacuate animals and themselves to the Garfield County Fairgrounds.
City of Pomeroy residents are NOT requested to evacuate at this time.
