COLTON–Five members of the Pomeroy Gun Club shot all or part of the Western Zone competition at Colton Gun Club over the weekend of July 19-21. The Western Zone has competition between 14 Clubs in the Western United States and Canada. The local Club provides awards along with the Zone collecting scores from each club and providing awards for the top shooters in each event at the 14 sites. Due to the internet, scores are compiled quickly.
Steve and Holly Ledgerwood, Buck Geiger, Terry John, and Larry Bunch all attended and had some success in the hot conditions at least for the local trophies.
In Friday's singles, Holly won the Lady II Trophy with a score of 96X100; Geiger also shot a score of 96; Terry John posted a 95; and Bunch had a 94.
In Handicap, Bunch and Geiger each put up scores of 92, which was one target short of shooting off for the Championship with three shooters who posted scores of 93. Bunch did shoot off for Senior Veteran Runner up but lost his shoot off.
In Doubles on Friday, Geiger shot a 90 which was high in "A" class. Bunch posted an 86.
In Saturday's 16-yard singles, Holly again posted the top Lady II score in the 200-target event with scores of 96-92 for a total of 188X200. Bunch shot 92-91 for a score of 183 and Terry John shot 94-89 for a 183 also. Bunch had an 86 in Saturday's Handicap and Terry had an 81.
Bunch was the only local competitor in Sunday's Doubles, and could only manage a score of 84. He had an 88 in Handicap and Terry had an 80. The event was shot in 105-degree heat so scores were less than spectacular. However, Jace Mathew Herrman, a junior shooter, did manage a score of 97, and won the coveted Washington State Trapshooting Association Belt Buckle that was awarded for the event. Jace is from Lewiston.
Practice shooting at the local Club continues Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
