POMEROY–The Port of Garfield County commissioners discussed Palouse Fiber Packaging products with Kyler Lovgren, approved expense authorizations, and discussed weed spraying at their meeting on Aug. 6.
Palouse Fiber Packaging is leveraging 3D printing to create custom molds for their fiber products. They currently make clamshells, cup carriers, planter pots, paint palettes, and wrapping paper. They are constantly innovating and creating new designs. The plant also has a lab that creates specialized formulas for each product that includes treatment for liquid resistance.
"The palette is resistant to water for 24 hours," Lovgren stated, "but the cup carrier is not. It doesn't need to be and we want it to biodegrade faster."
The plant currently has 10 employees, both full and part-time, with the goal of eventually employing 28.
The weed spraying is nearly completed on Port property. The edges of the roads were sprayed by Garfield County road crew and the rest by Perfection Weed. There is only a few patches of weeds where spraying has been delayed due to wind.
The commissioners approved a change to a previously approved expense authorization due to a cancelled check, and approved an expense authorization for the final payout for the storage unit roof repair.
