SoleKids High School volunteer coach clinic

POMEROY–A high school volunteer two-day coach clinic training will take place in various Pomeroy Ranger District locations in the Blue Mountains and Garfield County Fairgrounds on August 23-24. The clinic, focused on grades 7-12 participants, is a two-day team building and training workshop in the Blue Mountains where high school volunteers will run, explore, and maybe even forage for huckleberries. There will be communication, and team building exercises, and guide volunteers om the direction to facilitate effective SoleKIDS sessions to increase the sustainability of our program! There is no commitment to the fall SoleKIDS session required, but will strongly be encouraged.

Lunch, water and snacks will be provided. Coach clinics will include trainings to improve coaching, leadership, teamwork, and confidence.

The “WHY” is because of the need for kids and teens to have healthy outlets in the great outdoors. “We are excited to be kicking off our Fall session of SoleKIDS starting in September,” said Steele.

Trainees will meet in various locations on the Blue Mountain Pomeroy Ranger District; within an hour drive from Pomeroy. The group come to the Pomeroy City Park for pick up by Garfield County Public Transit at 8 a.m. The activities will begin at the Trailhead at 9 a.m. Public bus is NOT required; parents are more than welcome to participate in the activities. There will be a 30-minute warm-up time; a half hour run or jog, then at 10:30 a.m. the group will focus of mindfulness with an hour cooldown, running logs, games, and more. Lunch is at 12 p.m. with AAR at 1-2 p.m. The group will then travel back to Pomeroy at 2 p.m. which will bring the high school volunteer coach trainees back to the Pomeroy City Park at 2:30 p.m.

Due to transportation and other logistics of this new component of the program, a cost will now be required for SoleKIDS moving forward. This will cover all high school involvement, volunteer shirt, and race shirt for the season. Please contact Sarrah Steele at [email protected]. for details.

Meet at the Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 24 at 9 a.m. for the second day of the training. There will be a mock SoleKIDS practice, followed by a celebration, then completed by 1 p.m.
