POMEROY–The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) rendered its decision on the CUP moratorium, discussed planning commission applications and historic preservation at the meeting on Sept. 9.
The moratorium on Conditional Use Permit applications of alternative energy projects and telecommunication facilities will be maintained as-is for a term of six months. "Our intention is not to eliminate these projects," Commissioner Jim Nelson said. "We just want to do it right, especially looking forward into the future."
The Garfield County Planning Commission has open seats. The positions have been advertised, individuals with intent to apply information can be directed to the Public Works office. The BOCC will review applications and appoint members at the Sept. 23 meeting, and the positions will be open until filled.
Pomeroy Mayor Jack Peasley met with the commissioners to discuss historic preservation of buildings in Garfield County. The City of Pomeroy has a Historical Preservation Committee that has fallen inactive and the City Council is taking steps to reactivate the committee.
