W.T. Wooten Wildlife Area conducting Recreational User Survey

POMEROY–An assessment is being conducted on the W.T. Wooten Wildlife area to determine the effects of infrastructure on the Tucannon River. The assessment will consider the effects on the river’s health, effects on endangered fish populations, opportunities to maintain or enhance recreational opportunities, and possible lake improvements. The assessment is covering the floodplain areas of the Wildlife Area, including the Tucannon River, lakes, campgrounds, and associated facilities.

This survey, being led by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), will help agencies gather input and suggestions from visitors and recreational users. Survey responses will inform the nature of use and potential opportunities for improvement.

The survey will be open over the fall-winter of 2024-2025. Collective responses will be considered for the assessment. Individual responses are anonymous, except when users share their contact information. Respondents who do share their contact information will be notified of public meetings and other opportunities for input. Contact information will not be shared. 

The assessment process is being led by the WDFW, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), and the Nez Perce Tribes (NPT).
