Pirates down LaConner Braves

SUNNYSIDE–The Pirates took on the LaConner Braves, racking up 38 first-quarter points and rolling to a 64-24 non-league win here September 6. Pomeroy hosts Mabton this Friday at Lybecker Field.

"Pomeroy came out swinging against an unknown foe and put up 64 points against the former 11-man team from the West side," Head Coach Kyle Kimble said.

The Pirates had 343 yds on the ground on 14 carries with seven touchdowns and added three scores through the air on 4 of 7 passing. 

Jett Slusser rushed 192 yds and four touchdowns, and threw three touchdown passes for 89 yards through the air. Jacob Reisinger pulled in two Slusser passes for touchdowns. 

"We struggled a little tackling," Kimble said. "LaConner's quarterback and runningback got loose on us a couple times, but our inexperienced players are getting some valuable learning experience in our early season contests."

Pomeroy faces Mabton next, another 2B team dropping down and a complete unknown, Kimble said. "This will be a good test for the 1-0 Pirates," he said.
