POMEROY––Pomeroy Middle School Girls Basketball defeated Oakesdale 32-29 Sept. 23 and downed Garfield-Palouse 40-32 Sept. 19 at home.
"This was a tough game against a tall Oakesdale team that shot the ball really well," said Coach Haylee Dudley of the 32-29 win. "Despite being undersized, we rebounded well on the defensive end. We continue to improve in end-of-game situations."
Scoring: Nataly McKeirnan 6, Camryn Claassen 2, Lilaina Severson 2, Sidney Wolf 11, Daphne Waldher 4, Willow Bowen 5, Sophie Miller 2.
"I was impressed with how well the girls passed the ball and rebounded," said Dudley after the Gar-Pal win. "Our offense ran well and the girls did a good job of getting the ball up the floor quickly. This was truly a team effort."
Bowen led with 13 points. Other scoring was by Nataly McKeirnan 2, Camryn Claassen 4, Myka Horal 2, Lilaina Severson 2, Sidney Wolf 5, Daphne Waldher 4, Kendyl Tetrick 2, Sophie Miller 6.
The Junior Varsity beat Oakesdale 34-10. This game was a great team effort. Several girls handled the ball and as a team we fine tuned things defensively. We were able to work on running our offense and did a good job of finding the open person.
Scoring was Allie Gingerich 6, Aubree Ledgerwood 2, Brooklyn Ledgerwood 4, Emma Phelps 2, Allie VanVogt 4, Alexis Lindgren 2, Kennedy Cannon 4, Tallyn Anderson 10.
The C Squad won 14-6. "This Oakesdale team was tough and challenged our girls," Dudley said. "It was great to see the rebounding effort by our girls and to work on our offense in a game situation. This team is improving with every game they play and it's exciting to see."
