Bartels competes a hot Connell Invite

CONNELL–Pomeroy thinclad Kiersten Bartels finished 13th among 1B/2B competitors here Saturday.

"Kiersten Bartels ran a great race and powered through the hill to place 13th overall amongst the other 1B/2B competitors," said Coach Greg Sharp. Bartels finished the 5k course in 31.34.

"The course had everyone run a quarter mile gradual uphill grade to the top of the course before descending down to the finish line," Sharp said. The day included toasty 70° F. temperatures.

The Middle School boys, Abram Klippenstein and Dylan Taylor, competed. Taylor was 13th in 14:37 and Klippenstein 28th in 17:12.

"Dylan improved his mile pace time from 7:21 to 7:19 while Abram improved his mile pace time from 8:45 to 8:36," Sharp said.

Pomeroy athletes will definitely continue the trend to improve upon their overall time and mile pace time at the next meet in Colfax, Sharp said.

At St. George's Sept. 25, the weather canceled high school events after the middle school events, he said.

"A few minutes before the high school races, the storm that went through Pomeroy reached the Spokane area with rain and lightning," Sharp said. Officials canceled the remainder of the meet.
