POMEROY––Turnovers hurt the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves and helped the undefeated Pomeroy Pirates notch a 68-0 win here last Friday.
"Tekoa-Rosalia came out fired up and played some good defense early," said Head Coach Kyle Kimble, "but couldn't keep up with the Pirate scoring."
The Buccaneers visit Waitsburg Friday, kick off at 7 p.m.
Jett Slusser rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and was 5 for 8 for 63% passing for 102 yards and one touchdowns. Jacob Reisinger led the Pirates in receiving with 96 yards on two catches and 1 TD. Boone Schmidt had a clutch 81-yard pick six at the end of the first half.
Conrad Nelson counted 4½ tackles to lead the defense, with Boone Schmidt with 3½.
T-R's opening drive killed by a fumble, recovered by Conrad Nelson, and the Pirates scored on a Reisinger pass reception of 67 yards then three rushing touchdowns by Slusser.
A three-yard scoring run by Kyzer Herres closed out first-quarter scoring with a 22-0 Pirate lead.
T-R opened the second quarter with a drive that stalled at their 36-yard line with a fumble, recovered by Kyzer Herres. In a clickety-click, Herres scored on a 31-yard rumble, scoring the PAT as well.
T-R's next drive was kicked in the shins by a false start penalty and three pass plays later, a punt.
Slusser scored from the 31 and Reisinger punched in the point after for a 38-0 lead.
Morfin's kick buried the Timberwolves deep, and another penalty helped stall the drive, setting up a Herres interception. Next play, Herres hustled 22 yards for six.
T-R moved the ball past midfield on back-to-back 15-yard rushes by Westley Bryan, then Bryan hit Weldy for a reception and second-and-four on the Pirate 19. That's when Boone Schmidt intercepted a Bryan throw intended for Soren Braun, and pumped 81 yards to pay dirt as the first half ended.
The Pirates added a Herres touchdown in the third, and Reggie Ott punched in from the five in the fourth quarter. Peyton Cannon recovered a third-quarter fumble to stop a T-R drive to enable Ott's score.
