POMEROY––A rocky match that the Lady Pirates (8-3 overall, 7-3) pulled out of the fire paid dividends in the next match as the squad downed Waitsburg in three sets October 8 then overwhelmed the Colton Lady Wildcats in three sets on Colton's home court Oct. 10.
The Pirates faced Dayton at home last Tuesday and host Oakesdale tonight. Next week they visit Garfield-Palouse on Oct. 22 and wrap the regular season Oct. 24 against SJEL.
Pomeroy downed the Cards 25-13, 25-8, 25-22. "We had some mental errors in game 1," said Head Coach Adam Van Vogt, "but did a good job of fixing them to win a decisive game 2. In game 3 we lost focus but ended up winning the last several points."
Van Vogt praised the team for zero net violations and 95% serving.
Rallying from a difficult night helped the team to its 25-9, 25-8, 25-15 at Colton, Van Vogt said.
"Colton was one of our best matches of the season in that we really kept our errors down, stayed focused, and cleaned up the little mistakes we saw Tuesday," he said.
Despite some miscommunication errors that plagued us at times we had some other areas in which we played very well.
We have talked about how cleaning up unforced errors is important for us. In that regard we did not have a single net violation and served 61/64 (95%) on the night, which is an outstanding percentage. We also had a very strong hitting percentage in games 1 and 2 so I saw some really good things come out of this match.
