Zimmerman, Bartels meet Troy challenge

TROY, ID–Pirate cross country athletes Bethany Zimmerman and Kiersten Bartels placed in the middle of the pack at the 5k varsity run here Monday, and on the Pomeroy course Oct. 9, Bartels finished third and Zimmerman fourth out of a five-runner field.

Pomeroy's next XC meet will be Regionals at Colfax Nov. 1

"Our girls ran a very tough race today in the hills of Troy, Idaho," said Coach Greg Sharp. "They had to run up and down the hills around the school going through the mountain trails and back to the school. Definitely not a course for any athlete's personal record, but a good course to challenge them. They were able to keep a pace around 10:30 per mile which is great considering the terrain." Zimmerman ran a 32:34 for seventh and Bartels 32.39 for eighth.

Bartels was third on the home 5k in 25:46 and Zimmerman fourth in 26:12. Seventh grader Dylan Taylor was fourth in 10:30 and Abram Klippenstein seventh in 11:03 in the 1.5k.

"The race went very well as all of our athletes had great times," Sharp said.

"Dylan averaged 7:00 per mile and came within three seconds of his previous mile average of 6:57. Abram ran his fastest race yet with an average of 7:22 per mile crushing his prior 8:36 per mile average. Bethany ran her fastest race improving her best average mile pace from 9:11 to 8:27. Kiersten again improved her overall time and average mile pace from 8:56 down to 8:19. They all did a great job! They continue to get better as the season progresses."
