Lady Pirates bow out

POMEROY–The Lady Pirates were handed a pair of district-tourney losses bringing the season to an end. In the opening game, DeSales won in three sets and against Liberty Christian, a four-set loss.

Lady Pirates Taylor Gilbert, Olivia Cooper and Hollie Van Vogt made First Team All-League, and Sadie Klaveano made second team with Isabella Field receiving all-league honorable mention.

The team got off to a slow start in game one at DeSales but rallied to play competitive games in the second and third set before ultimately falling 25-14, 25-22, 26-24.

"The Pirates served 91% and rallied well but in games as close as two and three," said Head Coach Adam Van Vogt, "a couple of plays make the difference and Desales was able to make a couple more than we did, especially on the offensive end."

The Lady Bucs hosted Liberty Christian in the consolation round and started strong but couldn't maintain momentum, losing 25-21, 14-25, 16-25, 11-25.

"We served 92% and served tough," Van Vogt said. "The real difference is that we struggled in serve receive starting in game two in a manner that we really hadn't all season. The timing of it was obviously not ideal and it proved too much to overcome despite such a great first game and some bright spots in games two through four."

Pomeroy finished 10-5 on the season and third in league, three of those losses in five sets, Van Vogt said.
