Planning Commission plans multiple meetings in December

POMEROY-The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) discussed the county planning commission’s progress on rewriting the comprehensive plan, as well as continuing a speed study at their meeting on November 18.

The Planning Commission has added additional meetings to December’s schedule in an attempt to finish drafting the plan changes before the moratorium on conditional-use permit applications ends on February 5. Currently the plan is with outside council.

The Planning Commission will meet on Dec. 4, 11, and 18, both to hear from the outside council and to gain input from the community.

Commission member Wendi Watson expressed concern that the plan will be seen first by the energy companies, due to their status as stakeholders, even before it will come before the Planning Commission. “There’s no bigger stakeholder than the citizens of Garfield County,” Watson stated. She encouraged county residents to come to the commission meetings and give their input on the plan.

The BOCC also discussed the next step of the speed study that they are conducting using counters that log vehicle speed, direction, and time of day. The counters will be placed on Peola Road, on Arlington Street on the south side of Pomeroy, and on Meadow Gulch Road.
