POMEROY––Pomeroy Youth Basketball hosted the Third Annual Pomeroy Veterans Tournament November 15-16. There were 20 teams from Pomeroy, Dayton, and surrounding areas competing in 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade brackets. Five Pomeroy teams competed well and Pomeroy teams were in the Championship game in all four brackets.
5/6 Girls: Our 6th grade girls, who were tournament champions in 2023, repeated as 2024 tournament champions. They beat the LC Hawks 22-16 in the championship game and finished the tournament 4-0. Our 5th grade girls competed well against older competition as the rest of our teams were either 6th grade or 5th/6th grade combined.
5/6 Boys - The 5th/6th boys were second in pool play and fell to DeSales in the championship game for a second-place finish.
7/8 Girls - Pomeroy 7th grade girls were tournament runner ups falling to Tekoa-Rosalia 7/8 in the championship game.
7/8 Boys - The Palouse Cougars 8th grade won the tournament in dominant fashion. Pomeroy 7/8 boys were able to handle the other teams, but fell in the championship game for a second-place finish!
Organizers recognized the contributions of the Pomeroy School District and coaches, parents, officials, kids, and volunteers for making the tournament successful.
