Looking for a unique Christmas decoration for your home or business this holiday season? Pomeroy Elementary School is offering the opportunity to bid on a tree that will be specially decorated with school supplies and other school-related items. The tree will go to the highest bidder in a silent auction that will run until the school's Christmas program Monday, Dec. 20. The tree is part of the Parent-Teacher Fellowship fundraiser to replace playground equipment at the elementary school.

Pomeroy is now the owner of some 64 pages of printed work which comprises the Walla Walla District, Corps of Engineers report on "Flood Plain Information, Pataha Creek, City of Pomeroy, Washington." The city government is also the owner of eight large to scale aerial photographs of the city which the corps made and used to make the plan. Copies of the study made may be seen at city hall. A lot of people have already viewed the survey and have been unhappy with its results, claiming the 100 year flood it shows is an impractical thing to be measuring, and that what was needed was a measure of regular flood activity.

While returning to Pomeroy from Spokane Monday, Mrs. Juliet Parker, county extensionist, had an unusual automobile accident. She was driving toward Rosalia around 30 miles an hour on the icy highway when the car's right front wheel slipped off the pavement. The car spun around and kept going towards Rosalia, only the car was pointed toward Spokane and was on the wrong side of the road. Hitting the ditch, the car gently tipped over on its side. A dozen eggs in the car were not even broken, said Mrs. Parker. The only damage to the car was a dented fender. When she turned on the radio following the accident, "The Skater's Waltz" was playing.

The grand mask ball at Seeley's opera house Thursday night was in every way a pronounced success. About 75 maskers were on the floor and an immense crowd of spectators thronged the large building. The ladies' guild served a splendid supper, and we understand was well patronized. The prize for the best sustained characters were carried off by Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Noble, while Col. Mitchell and Mrs. Kester captured the prizes for the richest costumes. There were many striking and original costumes, conspicuous among which were the "swell coons", the "sisters of charity" and the Red cross figures. The costumes, "princess of the carnival" and "America" were rich and exquisitely beautiful.
