Pirate trio finishes second at Christmas Tourney

POMEROY––The Pirate Wrestling Team finished sixth with 88 points, and three grapplers advanced to the championship match but ended up with second-place medals here Saturday, December 28.

"The boys brought their A game for the home crowd," said Head Coach Mat Slaybaugh.

"The whole team wrestled really well today," Slaybaugh said. "It can be tough wrestling right after a few days off for Christmas but that wasn't an issue today for the Pirates. I'm very happy with how each of them are progressing so far this season."

The Pirates had three second-place finishers in Jackson Hutchens, Levi Bowen and Peyton Cannon, and a third-place finish from Kole Zimmerman, fourth place for Jess Winona, and fifth place for Arliss Bray.

"Eighth grader Jackson Hutchens has shown incredible growth since the start of the season helping him to notch his second-place finish," Slaybaugh said. "Levi Bowen's second-place finish was an incredible start to his season as he just recently joined the team. Peyton Cannon was wrestling up a weight class. Despite giving up 25 pounds to his opponent, Cannon pushed into second place."
