Lady Pirates tipped by Genesee

POMEROY––The Lady Pirates are now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in SE 1B basketball standings after edging the Dayton Lady Bulldogs in overtime and suffering a fourth-quarter fade to drop a non-league contest to Genesee 54-46.

The Lady Pirates hosted Waitsburg Wednesday of this week, meet St. John/Endicott-LaCrosse at home Friday and visit Tekoa-Rosalia Saturday.

The Lady Pirates were led by Hollie Van Vogt and Kiersten Bartels, both with nine points, and Carmen Fruh with seven in the loss to Genesee.

Pomeroy bopped to a 17-13 lead in the first quarter and kept it up for a 27-22 margin at half time.

But Genesee came out swinging in the third quarter while putting the clamps on Lady Pirate offense, outscoring Pomeroy 16-12 in the third and 16-7 in the fourth for the rally win.

At Dayton on December 27, the Lady Pirates looked to Taylor Gilbert with nine points, Molly Warren with eight and Van Vogt with five points.

Pomeroy and Dayton battled pretty evenly. "It was a close game the whole way," said Head Coach Brian Koller.

The Lady Bucs were 11-10 leaders after eight minutes and trailed 19-16 at the break. Pomeroy chopped away in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 8-5 for a 24-24 tie after three quarters. Both teams scored 10 in the fourth quarter, setting up the overtime, with Pomeroy prevailing 4-2 for the win.

At Liberty Christian on December 30, the Lady Patriots fell 39-21.
