Let the Lord lead your change

Some New Year's resolutions often include exercising, losing weight, and getting more organized.

There are also some unusual ones. One resolution was to order every drink on a Starbucks menu. Another was to stop blaming things on the dog. New Year's resolutions can be helpful, but there are certain things we don't wait for a New Year to do.

When the Lord puts it in our heart to make a change, we don't wait for a new year. Our commitment to Him is to love and please Him moment by moment. We do not wait for a "better time" or a new year. The Bible teaches "if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin" 1 Jn. 1:9.

Walking in the light means ongoing transparency and honesty with the Lord. It involves listening to Him and His Word, being aware of any darkness we harbor in our hearts, hiding nothing from Him and harboring nothing against Him. It involves immediacy in that moment to acknowledge our sin to Him and turn from it, rejoicing that the blood of Christ immediately cleanses us, restoring us to joyful fellowship with the Lord and with one another.

Joyful repentance in the New Year!
