POMEROY–Local Gun Club members enjoyed decent conditions on the first week of the 10-week Camas Prairie Trap competition with some decent scores.
The club had 32 youth shooters participate, and the top three scores in the 16-yard singles are submitted to the Camas Prairie Association each week. The scores of 24 Camas clubs are reported to the Lewiston newspaper and published on Tuesday. The senior club members report the top scores of the week in a number based on how many participants the club had. Those scores are then averaged and reported in the Tribune, which acts as the weekly scoreboard.
The Youth shooters had tougher conditions on January 11, with a 15 MPH wind affecting targets, but they still turned in some decent scores. In the 12-year-old and younger division, Blake Warren had the top score in the 16-yard competition with a 19 X 25 score. Josh Hastings and Colton Davis put up scores of 16. Hastings had the top Handicap score of 18. Shaun Bingman shot a 16.
Sub Juniors were led in the 16-yard event by the 23s posted by Josephine Watson and Rowdy Cole. Luke Collier had a score of 21. In Handicap, Cole led all shooters with 21.
Juniors were led by a pair of 22s shot by Sawyer Brenner and Mason Garcia in 16-yard competition. Brenner had the top Handicap score of 20 while Byron Collier and Garcia had scores of 19. The two 23s and a 22 resulted in the junior club recording a score of 68 X 75 in the Camas Prairie competition.
On Sunday, adult shooters had a much nicer day, mild winds and decent light on the targets even though the day was overcast.
Clark Capwell, Wayne Tetrick, and Sean Beale all got off to a good start with perfect 25 X 25 scores in the 16-yard competition. Missing one target each with scores of 24 were Ray Endicott, Buck Geiger, Jeff Hannas, Lee Koller, Mason Blachly and Mike Hastings. This was the best first week performance in several years. In Handicap, Steve Brown and Tracy Hanger posted the top scores of 24, and Mason Blachly and Matt Fitzgerald shot 23.
Ollie Severs and Travis Ledgerwood had perfect 25s in the Continental Competition while Jim Adams, Brian Bingman, and Larry Bunch missed only one for scores of 24.
Buck Geiger had the top Doubles score of 43X50 and Jim Adams, Larry Bunch, and Tracy Hanger had scores of 42.
