Two gold medals and a silver medal were brought home by Pirate wrestlers Levi Bowen, Arliss Bray and Peyton Cannon after the Bronco Invitational last weekend. Bowen commanded the 165-lb. class and Cannon the 190-lb. division while Bray finished second in the 126-lb. division.
RITZVILLE–Pirate Wrestling scored 87 points, well enough for seventh place at the Bronco Invitational here Jan. 18, with wrestlers Peyton Cannon and Levi Bowen finishing first in their divisions, and eighth grader Arliss Bray finishing second.
Next up for the wrestling team is a Jan. 22 Dual Meet in Colfax.
"The team had a good showing led by juniors Peyton Cannon and Levi Bowen with first place finishes," said Head Coach Mat Slaybaugh. "Both guys looked dominant throughout the day.
"Levi Bowen pinned a 2024 state placer on his way to the finals and capped his day with a first-round pin in the finals," Slaybaugh said. "Cannon faced a state-ranked opponent for his finals match but overcame him with a second-round pin.
"Eighth grader Arlis Bray had a great day ending in second place," Slaybaugh said. "Arlis continues to amaze with his toughness as an 8th grader and his improvement since starting the season."
Bowen – 165: Champ. Round 1 - Bowen over Oliver Daniels (Lakeside) (Fall 2:00), Quarterfinals - Bowen over Ayden Grooms (Okanogan) (Fall 2:41). Semifinals - Bowen over Jackson Tiboni (Hanford) (Fall 0:36). 1st Place Match - Bowen over Julian Fonseca (Okanogan) (Fall 0:42).
Bray – 126: Quarterfinals - Bray over Riqee Cervantes (Liberty (Spangle)) (Fall 0:51). Semifinals - Bray over Tristin Sawyer (Rainier) (Fall 3:52). 1st Place Match - Nakoa Rocha (Northwest Christian (Colbert)) over Bray (Fall 1:51).
Cannon – 190: Champ. Round 1 - Cannon received a bye. Quarterfinals - Cannon over Aiden Fowler (Kettle Falls) (Fall 0:55). Semifinals - Cannon over Jacob Nelson (Hanford) (Dec 9-5). 1st Place Match - Cannon over Tatum Gunn (Okanogan) (Fall 2:20).
Jackson Hutchens – 150: Champ. Round 1 - Wesley Allen (Okanogan) over Hutchens (Fall 2:52). Cons. Round 1 - Hutchens received a bye. Cons. Round 2 - Chase Horstman (Hanford) over Hutchens (Fall 5:01).
