POMEROY–There are many factors that affect trapshooting success and those can be light conditions, wind, temperature, and the background the targets fly toward. On week two of the Camas Prairie competition the light was brighter than week one, there was very little wind, the temperature was colder but not terrible, and the background was the same. Some combination of those conditions made targets harder to see as they left the trap house. The writer of this article believes it was the combination of bright sunshine and the dry grass background of the hillside we throw the targets toward. The orange dome targets were harder to see as they left the trap house at 42 MPH. All this being said, scores were down from week one and that is the clubs excuse.
The youth shooters had a bit smaller turnout but fair attendance on Saturday. In the 16-yard event that is important for the club's weekly score posted with the Camas Prairie Association the 12-year-old and younger kids were led by the scores of 16 X 25 shot by Blake Warren and Colton Davis. Josh Hastings and Shaun Bingman posted scores of 14. Warren had the top Handicap score of 16 and Bingman put up a 15.
Luke Collier had the top sub junior 16-yard score of 23 and Tyler Taylor posted an 18. Rowdy Cole had a 23 in handicap to lead the middle division of youth and Luke Collier posted a 21. Those two scores were shot a week ahead which was a bit of an advantage for those kids.
The juniors were led by the 22 of Raymond Yutzy and a 21 by Mason Garcia in the 16-yard competition. Hagen Taylor led the handicap with a 21 while Yutzy and Colby Ledgerwood put up scores of 19.
The only perfect 25 on the scoreboard for the senior club was shot ahead by Ollie Severs last weekend during 16-yard competition. That score will count toward Pomeroy Gun Club trophies but could not be used in the CPTA competition. Ollie was in Texas this past week shooting for the LCSC Trapshooting team. Brian Bingman, Clark Capwell, Holly Ledgerwood, Jeff Hannas, Justin Dixon, and Larry Bunch all missed one target for scores of 24 for the senior club. Severs put up a 24 in the handicap competition that was shot a week early to lead that event. Clark Capwell, Lee Koller, Buck Geiger and Sean Beale all had scores of 22 in Handicap. The Continental completion saw a perfect 25 shot by Jim Adams, while Severs and Brian Bingman had scores of 24. Severs had a 44 in doubles that was shot ahead and Jim Adams had a score of 43X50. Steve Brown and Buck Geiger posted 42s.
After week one the junior club was in fifth place in the 24-club field in the Camas Prairie Association and the senior club was in sixth place.
Week three shooting will begin Saturday for the youth shooters and Sunday for adults.
