POMEROY–The Garfield County Public Health District board elected officers, announced new slogan, and approved resolutions at their meeting on Jan. 21.
The new slogan of GCPHD is ‘healthy people, healthy families, healthy places’, administrator Martha Lanman announced. Lanman stated her hope that the new slogan communicates the goals of the GCPHD programs. She also announced that the next event sponsored by the health district will be a bike rodeo in March.
Officers elected were Jim Nelson as chairman, Larry Ledgerwood as vice-chairman, Martha Lanman as board administration officer, and Patti Blachly to fill Position 5. Nelson, Ledgerwood and Lanman will hold their positions for two years and Blachly for four years.
The GCPHD approved resolution 2025-01, an agreement for solid waste management with the Washington State Department of Ecology that reduces the amount of funds accepted by the district to an amount that is expected to be used as well as resolution 2025-02, an amendment to the consolidated contract with the Washington State Department of Health. The amendment transfers funding from the contract that expired at the end of 2024 to a new one, approved last month, which will be valid for the next three years. The total funding of the contract is $1,060,137. The district also approved resolution 2025-03, an agreement with Benton County for $6,000 to be used for tobacco and marijuana use prevention.
In further business, Lanman announced that GCPHD will provide HIPPA-compliant fax line services for all county lines. The funding will come from Foundation of Public Health Services funds.
